Halfway through Singularity

Reflecting connections

From early on in my life I understood solitude. By my early teens I was living apart from my family within our own house. My parents and siblings lived two floors above me as I lived in the basement. My sister arrived somewhat unexpectedly and a finished basement became one with a bedroom addition as well. As I was the oldest it fell upon me to go down below, to a room behind a door, at the end of the hallway by the stairs atop which was another door, always closed to keep the baby from falling. Me, alone, disconnected.

Within that earthen shelter I learned to embrace the introverted counter culture, the underground. I spent time disconnected from real humans mining music on Napster and LimeWire. My Xbox Gamer Zone was underground partly for the subterranean joke and partly for the truth of my enjoyment of independent culture. This would crossover into everything about me throughout my life. I would only consume independently produced materials and would seek out solo projects as often as I could. There was a superhero strength in singularity that I saw and was given to me.

Late at night, I would crawl out of the mandatory fire-escapable windows. I would wait 20 minutes…
